Here are frequently asked questions by emergency healthcare professionals regarding MedicAlert’s emergency information services and PrEMISE® application.

What is PrEMISE?
The PrEMISE app is a free and secure service application offered by the MedicAlert Foundation that discloses a MedicAlert member’s medical history during emergency care. PrEMISE™ stands for Protected Emergency Medical Information Service Exchange.

Who can access PrEMISE?
Only those who have a current registration account with the MedicAlert Foundation can access the PrEMISE app. They include licensed physicians, nurses, EMTs and paramedics.

Why should I register?
Registration helps keep the patient’s record secure by identifying the user who accessed the record in an emergency.

Does my PrEMISE registration expire?
Yes, your registration will expire with the expiration of your professional license. We will send you an email notifying you of the expiration. You will need to update your account with the new expiration date. Your account will be on hold if you do not update your license information. Visit www.medicalert.org/premise to update your registration.

Where do I register for PrEMISE?
Visit www.medicalert.org/premise and click on new user. It should only take a few minutes. Be sure to remember your password when you need it to access patient’s record. Do not share your password with anyone.

Is the PrEMISE app secure?
Yes. The PrEMISE app keeps all information encrypted and secure. It quickly identifies suspicious activity and automatically prevents further access until the cause is investigated.

How do I access PrEMISE in an emergency?
Online: You can access your patient’s information through www.medicalert.org/premise. Use the login you created when you registered.

Mobile: Download the PrEMISE app from the iTunes App Store or from Google Play using your smartphone or mobile tablet. Use the login you created when you registered.

Phone: If you do not have electronic access, you can always call MedicAlert’s emergency number at 800-625-3780. MedicAlert Foundation is available for emergency information by a live operator 24/7.

What information will I need to provide in an emergency when I access PrEMISE?

Member ID: After you log in, you will be asked to enter your patient’s MedicAlert member ID. This can be found on the back of your patient’s MedicAlert ID (usually a bracelet or pendant). You can also look for the member ID using your patient’s MedicAlert wallet card.

Facility of Care: enter the healthcare facility or hospital where the member is receiving care. If you are an EMS professional and en route to a local hospital, please enter the destination hospital. MedicAlert will relay this location information to patient’s family.

Reason for Access: enter the reason you are accessing this member’s medical information such as “member in need of medical care’.

What information is contained in PrEMISE?
MedicAlert collects vital information as it relates to each individual patient. Here is a list of what you could find in the PrEMISE app: advance directives, allergies, medications, past medical, past surgical, implanted medical device information, family history, social history, immunizations, diagnostic reports, clinical trial information, health insurance, patient’s contact information, and patient’s emergency contacts.

How does using PrEMISE benefit me?
The service can help reduce potential medication and medical errors. It can help you provide the best treatment possible as you care for your patients.

What happens after I’ve accessed PrEMISE?
MedicAlert will receive an electronic alert to notify the patient’s emergency contact(s) so that your patient will not be alone in an emergency.
